Bitter gourd is one of the world’s major vegetable crops, which belongs to the family Cucurbitaceous. Bitter gourd grows in tropical and subtropical areas, including parts of East Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and South America, where it is used not only as a food but also as a medicine.

Bitter gourd is a rich source of vitamins and minerals. It contains iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamins like A and C. It contains twice the calcium of spinach and beta-carotene of broccoli. Various anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds are present in bitter gourd.

Bitter Gourd Fry

RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS

  • Bitter gourd (Pavakka) – 1 large
  • Chili powder – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt (As required) –

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. For preparing the fry, first cut bitter gourd into round shapes.
  2. Add red chilli powder, turmeric and salt and a tablespoon of coconut oil.
  3. Marinate and keep it for atleast 1 hour.
  4. Deep fry it in oil
  5. Yummy Pavakka deep fry is ready.
